An Integrative Psychotherapist is less likely to adhere to a single psychological theory, but rather draw from a combination of traditional, somatic, evidence-based and cutting-edge practices acquired in professional, advanced studies. Your therapy journey is unique to you, your needs, your circumstances. Most therapists agree that an individualized approach will best support optimal growth and change.

The psychodynamic and relational therapy models are the foundation of this practice, honoring the healing power of the therapy relationship, as well as the transformation and growth that occurs with cognitive strategies, psychological insight and the development of self-awareness. We also pay attention to and honor the wisdom held in the body. Some evidence-based and mind-body techniques that are integrated into sessions may include: EMDR, IFS, CBT and DBT skills, positive neuroplasticity techniques, attachment-focused therapy, existential/humanistic, mindfulness-based practices, focusing-oriented therapy, somatic experiencing, couples therapy techniques, psychodynamic psychotherapy, as examples. Developing a life that is satisfying and rich may involve finding balance between elements of acceptance and change. The experience of feeling “stuck” in your life can feel hopeless, and is often downright painful. Understanding unhelpful patterns and dynamics that are repeated in the here and now contributes to enhanced maturity and a more reality-based, conscious life. Therapy and coaching can help you identify unhelpful adaptations to life and circumstances as well as connect to and unearth the parts of yourself that will contribute to optimal emotional and physical health. My mission is to help you identify your strengths, live mindfully, develop acceptance where needed, resolve trauma and addictive tendencies and explore new ways of “being” in your life. I believe that growth, healing and corrective emotional experiences occur in the context of healthy relationships that begin with the therapeutic relationship.

Transform

With EMDR

Your life

Has A Trauma Changed Your Life? Are Symptoms Interfering With Your Wellbeing? Welcome To A Deeper Healing Journey Where Greater Transformation Is Possible…

If You’ve Tried Traditional Talk Therapy And Still Suffer Trauma-Related Symptoms Or Blocks, You Have Other Healing Options. EMDR Therapy Can Offer Lasting Healing, And Often, In Less Time Than Traditional “Talk” Therapy.

If traditional “talk” therapy has not been enough to resolve your distressing symptoms, it might be time to try a different model of care. I’ve trained in many modalities, but I find myself returning to EMDR again and again. EMDR Therapy changed my practice years ago because it works and it changes lives. It is the one treatment method that is consistently powerful and transformative for my patients, especially when other highly-effective therapies such as IFS, CBT and Somatic Experiencing are integrated into sessions. Depending on your unique needs, chosen therapy modalities may include: EMDR, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, CBT, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness and Somatic Experiencing®. I completed EMDRIA-approved EMDR advanced Levels I & II training and supervision many years ago and have used it in my New York City psychotherapy private practice consistently and with excellent results. EMDR is effective at getting to the root cause of underlying beliefs and blocks that cause many to not benefit from traditional therapy or life coaching. Transform surviving into thriving with EMDR.

Virtual EMDR is an effective and powerful tool to add to your therapy healing journey, as an adjunct to your existing therapy or as a stand-alone solution. READ MORE

The therapeutic Consultation

(Brief Therapy 1-4 Sessions)

Are You Looking For Perspective, Guidance, Direction, Support, A Second Opinion, But You Aren’t Interested In Ongoing Weekly Therapy?

In addition to ongoing, weekly or bi-weekly psychotherapy, I offer brief therapy consultations (typically 1-4 sessions) to help you obtain solutions for a range of challenges. You will gain psychological perspectives or strategies for yourself or another, gain help for a personal or professional crisis or a challenging situation that would benefit most from a robust, solution-focused intervention. Sessions conducted via Video or Phone.

What happens when you find yourself facing a challenge in your life, but the problem doesn’t require the commitment of ongoing weekly therapy. Holistic Psychotherapy & Wellness Manhattan offers brief solution-focused consultations, an option for individuals with specific concerns, or challenging life-events that would benefit from a robust and highly-focused approach. Sessions are goal-oriented therapy and consulting sessions, (brief, typically 1-4 sessions), offering perspective, guidance, direction, second opinions and support for a range of concerns. Most clients would say that they felt better after the initial consultation session. Because solution-focused therapy is goal-oriented, this form of therapy and counseling is an excellent option for couples and families who are looking to find solutions to their challenges. Depending on availability, sessions can be scheduled for the next day. Consultation appointments focus on helping you move quickly towards resolution of a particular problem, or symptom relief from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, a troubling circumstance and relationship concerns. If you have out-of-network insurance, a portion of your session will be reimbursed to you.

Sessions are offered via secure HIPPA-compliant video and telephone. READ MORE

Connect

to Love & Intimacy

couples tend to enter Counseling when they are in a state of despair and terrified that their relationship is beyond repair. Communication and trust have been eroded, sex and intimacy is a thing of the past. Couples With a strong foundation also enter therapy when they are facing a specific challenge and are seeking the help of a professional for guidance. Holistic Psychotherapy & Wellness Manhattan provides marriage and relationship therapy to partners in crisis and counseling for partners who have experienced a betrayal or any crisis that has threatened the connection.

Couples tend to enter therapy after years of suffering, feeling confused, betrayed, misunderstood, wounded, resentful, lonely and disconnected. I offer attachment-focused couples therapy that guides partners to deeply understand the other, as well as identify patterns and dynamics that have origins in the past, but are being reenacted in the present. These habitual and unhelpful patterns keep partners from enjoying a present-day, reality-based relationship.

Marriage, relationship and couple therapy helps partners create and strengthen emotional bonds, which can lead to increased feelings of security and closeness in both partners. Because partners bring their own unique dynamics into relationships, effective couple therapy can help motivated partners navigate difficult transitions and challenges, and also heal trauma wounds when present. In many cases, couples have suffered a traumatic rupture in their relationship, such as a betrayal or infidelity, a difficult loss or change in circumstance, or another type of crisis that creates relational stress.

We repeat what we don’t repair, and this challenging, unconscious pattern shows up in our relationship with ourselves and our partners. Psychology calls this process “repetition compulsion.” What part of your history are you unconsciously repeating in your relationships?

This practice welcomes all stages and types of relationships with experience working with married, unmarried, polyamorous, monogamous, non-monogamous, kink, LGBTQ, and bi-racial couples. This therapy and wellness practice offers online couple & marriage counseling to busy New Yorkers, which means we can meet in the comfort of your own home or the personal space of your choosing using my HIPPA-compliant, easy to use Telehealth platform. Your

Feeling failed by antidepressants and other psychiatric meds and interested in boosting your mood and reducing your anxiety naturally?

I’d like to introduce you to the ways in which Nutrition, Amino Acid Therapy, Natural Medicine & Somatic Practices can assist you in creating the optimal mental health you desire, using highly-effective alternative therapies.

More and more, patients are turning to natural treatments to increase vitality and wellness, used exclusively, or as a complement to their existing traditional medical care. Increasingly, individuals who are dissatisfied with conventional psychiatry are turning to natural and holistic ways to feel better and address their symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, trauma and depression. Current findings suggest that antidepressants work for some, but not for everyone, and unfortunately their effects often do not last. When it comes to mental health, generally, there are multiple factors at play, including: genetics, malnutrition, poor diet, hormonal imbalance, traumatic experiences, environmental challenges, as examples. Hormonal Transitions

Mental Health Challenges At Menopause, Kim Seelbrede, LCSW Menopause, Perimenopause Psychologist

Changes in your hormones during menopause can impact your mental health as well as your physical health.

You may experience feelings of anxiety, stress or even depression. Menopausal symptoms may include: brain fog, poor concentration, Irritability, loss of confidence and Difficulty coping with the usual aspects of daily life.

These are likely just a few of the many new and life-changing symptoms. As a woman going through hormonal changes, I know that you have not been informed about menopause, nor do you have the skills to manage it alone. As a licensed mental health professional I work with women who struggle with debilitating symptoms related to hormonal transitions. Their personal and professional lives suffer greatly as a result, and they often have no idea what’s happening to them. I coach women by helping them identify the symptoms related to changing hormones, and the impact on mental health and wellbeing. Together we create a plan that includes gaining skills, resources and supportive options. I see too many women suffering at this transition, and not enough research, education and validation for the struggle. Even worse, I see women who are regularly gaslit by their medical professionals as they seek to understand and get help for their hormone-related struggles. And yet, we have receptors for sex hormones throughout the body and brain, and neurotransmitters are directly impacted by the changes in hormones. We now know that estrogen has protective effects against psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia because of its modulating effect on neurotransmitters, especially dopamine. Some women have their first presentation of schizophrenia at menopause. That’s just one example of how hypoestrogenism can impact women’s mental health.

Your doctor may dismiss your symptoms and tell you “that’s just life after menopause” and give you an antidepressant. You don’t have to just “tolerate” the suffering. Menopause may not be considered a disorder, but it sure can feel like it for many. READ MORE

Integrate

Holistic & Integrative Psychotherapy

What Happens In A Holistic Psychotherapy Practice?

As a holistic psychotherapist, we consider the many dimensions of wellness, including: identity, health, body, love, spirituality, play, career, money, time, home, family, friends and community, as examples. We also pay attention to the positive aspects of your life, what’s good, what’s working, in addition to the areas that you’d like to improve, because identifying and bolstering strengths enhances resiliency. The support you receive during therapy can help you develop healthier coping skills and uncover conflicts and obstacles that may be holding you back. We are typically trained in a broad range of healing modalities to support your wellness goals. The goal is to create a fuller integration between mind, body and spirit by using an approach that honors your physical and emotional health. In other words, holistic psychotherapy is a “whole” person approach to healing. Holistic and integrative practitioners tend to believe that this approach leads to a deeper level of healing for our patients. The way we care for our body and spirit through diet, movement, beliefs, thoughts, values, relationships are all important aspects of who we are and how we feel, which determines many things, including our overall vitality, resilience and capacity for growth, and the successful achievement of our dreams and goals.

What Is Integrative Psychotherapy?

Integrative therapy refers to an approach that blends various therapies with the goal of providing comprehensive mental health care. Many integrative psychotherapists use both top down and bottom up approaches blended into sessions, which means that they have a dual focus— thoughts of the mind, and experiences in the body—gently integrating the cognitive with somatic. Explore

The Unconscious

Psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy offers insight into what you can’t always access.

Current science estimates that about 95 percent of our brain activity is unconscious, meaning that the majority of our behaviors, decisions, actions, conflicts and emotions are beyond conscious awareness. In fact, the unconscious is responsible for much of our misery, unhappiness, anxiety and depression. It is possible to have greater access to the unconscious in the service of leading a more conscious life. I offer a psychoanalytically-informed psychotherapy approach to help clients understand themselves and their relationships, as well as the unconscious internal conflicts that impede them from achieving their goals and having a more satisfying life. Through this lens, we are able to identify and uncover the unconscious conflicts that drive us to repeat and engage in behaviors and dynamics that are an unconscious attempt to master the past, but often lead to self-destructive and self-defeating behaviors. Paying close attention to and working through unconscious material, clients gain insight into current difficulties and patterns, which frees them to make important changes in their lives. This leads to lasting changes in rigid defense mechanisms, symptom reduction and increased self-esteem and mastery. These life-enhancing changes gained in psychodynamic psychotherapy keeps the conscious you in the driver’s seat more often.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” —Carl Jung

This is not a short-term therapy solution, rather an unfolding of experiences revealed in the context of the relationship between psychotherapist and patient. Because psychoanalytic psychotherapy also emphasizes the ways in which past experiences shape our present experience, the therapeutic process involves the exploration of transference (feelings that the patient has toward another person which they unconsciously redirect toward the therapist) to explore unresolved issues. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is typically used in higher-functioning patients (e.g. patients not actively suicidal, without serious substance abuse problems, and without acute instability in their lives). Feel

Stress, Overwhelm, Anxiety, OCD, Panic Disorder, Major Depression, Postpartum Depression, Situational Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder can keep you from having the life you deserve.

Holistic Psychotherapy & Wellness Manhattan specializes in stress, anxiety and depression treatment using evidence-based therapy as well as mind-body techniques. Several highly effective protocols and a combination of techniques are offered to patients struggling to manage stress, anxiety and depression. These techniques offer a high success rate for helping patients overcome anxiety using combined CBT skills and EMDR technique. Patients gain skills to address thoughts and behaviors as well as the opportunity to experience healing at the level of the nervous system. Resourcing and empowerment tools make it easier for patients to handle future circumstances. With fewer anxiety symptoms, patients report improvement in personal and professional aspects of their lives in addition to improved productivity, motivation, focus and a decrease in procrastination. Using the nervous system healing techniques of EMDR combined with the emotion and thought management techniques of CBT, clients are able to effectively control their anxiety symptoms. This treatment protocol is effective for generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and PTSD. Because CBT is skills-based, patients feel empowered and are able to manage and control their anxiety symptoms. Because EMDR therapy heals at the level of the nervous system, clients find that they spend less time doing CBT homework, and are more often than not, are able to maintain and return to a state of self-regulation.
